We would like to thank Gartner for recognizing Corvil for the third successive year as a visionary in the rapidly growing Network Performance Monitoring and Diagnostics market segment. We are also delighted that the Corvil product has once again received the highest total score across all vendors and across all use cases within the Gartner critical capabilities report for 2017. Special thanks and appreciation goes to our customers who were kind enough to take the time with Gartner to explain their experiences with Corvil. Everyone at Corvil is truly grateful and continue to be inspired to deliver better products, services and support to our customers who rely on Corvil every day to help safeguard their business as it flows through the network.
I must admit that when we were first approached by Gartner in 2014, stating that we were going to be included in the NPMD MQ, I had mixed feelings. Our feeling at Corvil was that we were on a different mission and have a different vision of the future, compared to the other companies included in the NPMD magic quadrant. We felt like the odd one out. Our view back in 2014 was that the data flowing through the network was going to be more valuable than the network itself. The disruptive opportunity was to tap into the raw packet data and transform it into streaming operational and business intelligence for use by IT, security and business teams. This is what our product was built to do from day one. We were first to market with a streaming analytics platform for network data and we were grateful to Gartner for recognizing our thought leadership in the space. As we spoke with the Gartner analysts in more depth about our vision for the future and the critical new role of the network, it became clear to us that Gartner shared in and resonated with much of what we saw as the necessary evolution of the NPMD MQ. It is gratifying to see that in 2017, those ideas are now reality with the inclusion of new criteria, new scoring and new entrants based on this view of the future. It is exciting to see this happen.
We are grateful to our customers for giving us a glimpse of the future and allowing us to be a critical part of that future. I am specifically referring to our strong customer base in financial markets. In many respects, I feel like they beamed us into the future where all business is conducted in a machine world autonomously on their behalf.
We have seen what happens. Business becomes a blur. It is much harder to see and make sense of what is going on. The performance and predictability of business applications and services becomes more critical for business success. Infrastructure failure or mishap has a disproportionate impact. Business becomes more vulnerable to cyber-attack. Operating risk rises to a new level. All of this happens in machine-time, i.e. the time it takes a machine to make a decision or take an action.
We believe that in this new machine world, Corvil becomes the machine to watch over the machines and things that are operating autonomously to carry out business.
We believe that network data will play a leading role in this future. We will not be able to control and safeguard business in a machine world unless we have the right type of data. We need a data source that is accessible, has the right information, is granular enough to discern key events, and is forensically verifiable. It turns out that network data meet these criteria. This is why we use network data at Corvil.
Finally, I would like to congratulate all of the companies who were included and recognized by Gartner in the new NPMD MQ 2017. I am sure that, like us, you each have your own story to share. While I recognize we all ultimately compete to win business, I am sure that you will also recognize there is tremendous value in our collective work and innovation to evolve, grow, and excite the world at the new possibilities from investing in network monitoring and analytics. Together we can re-imagine this space and build something of tremendous value for our customers. We are thankful for this opportunity.
